A Few Things on a Friday

  • I can't really explain it, but when I have a morning cup o' Jo, with that good splash of hazelnut creamer, my whole day feels better. You know what I'm sayin'? I'm like Superwoman on steroids, yo. There is cleaning magically getting done, and food on the table, and clean laundry, and sometimes? Well, sometimes I even put the laundry back. BUT. In order for this miracle to happen, I need to have a good hr with just me, my coffee and a good tv show or my BHG magazine. No kid. Or husband. Just me. And for all that to take place would be a miracle in itself.
  • There are not many things that truly gross me out. Comes with being a nurse I guess. But seeing someone pull their own condom catheter off their pride and joy and then proceeding to suck on it, brings the dry heaving from the bottom of my stomach even in someone like me.
  • This week I cried when my patient decided he was going to stop his fight agains being a quadriplegic.
  • Little touches of fall make my heart giddy.
  • I have a bad obsession with burlap. Like bad bad. Almost anything I see, I like. Which only leads to needing to make. Do you know that burlap is messy and 10 month olds like to eat the 'leftovers'? And do you also know that burlap is really bad for your scissors? It dulls them to crap and you may as well use them to cut your leg hair in the spring after a whole winter of not shaving.
  • As sappy as this may sound, my daughter makes me a better person. I laugh more, care more, love more. See the world with new eyes, more. And she has ignited that 'better me' fire in my heart.
Have a gorgeous weekend friends

I've never really noticed burlap much before. I'll start paying attention. That wreath is so cute!

And that's so sad about your patient giving up. I'll send a prayer out for him.

I could never be a nurse, I have a weak stomach :) You guys see so much, I'm sure it's tough! I heart burlap too, love the wreath!!

I think I puked a little reading parts of this post, thaaaanks. ;)
You are a wreath making machine! I loooove the one on your door, love, love, loooove! Man, I wish I could come over and we could drink coffee and make wreaths and let our babies play and NOT talk about the nasty things you see as a nurse. Haha!

Um yeah that is really gross...I'm not sure I could even the rest of your post after getting a visual of that. But yes coffee definitely helps get things done and burlap is everywhere! I've never worked with it but I could totally see how it could be tough to work with.

I can relate. I get puked on every week being a kids dentist. Unfortunately, part of the job. YOur post made me laugh this morning. Love the picture of you and the coffee too. Looks like my am everyday.

love your first picture! Way to have fun with yourself. And I love your coffee mug. Wherever did you get it? I love the beginning of fall too... It makes me want to be with family and have bonfires and eat smores. I wish it would get colder where I am (FLORIDA STINKS). I love the anticipation of the holidays and all the good food and family fun that is waiting ahead. Oh... and as always your daughter is previous!

Ok, you officially made me smile, laugh, tear up & want to puke all in the same post! haha. That means it was a good one! Love the picture of Giada & I totally hear you on the hour to yourself with coffee & tv/magazines. wait.. that must be a dream (it never happens in my household).

Happy Friday!

So many things to comment on! I love the autumn touches throughout your house. Especially the wreath, I wish I was as crafty as you to pull that off.
I'm the same way about coffee, if I don't start my morning with alone time and cup of caffeine then you do NOT want to talk to me.
And I dry heaved a little bit too when I read that story - God bless you for doing what you do. Nastiness.

Not going to lie... I am so disturbed that you shared that with us. Oh sick. I have that image stuck in my head now and it's AWFUL!
So praying for your patient :(
And Giada is pretty as ever!

1. That is a GORGEOUS picture of your daughter. Gorgeous.

2. There is NO amount of creamer that will ever make me put the laundry BACK.. isn't that what the laundry fairy does? ;oP

3. I threw up in my mouth a little over the condom cath.. That does NOT make me miss my job any more.

4. Happy Weekend, friend!!

This is why I love nurses. They have the best stories. :)

I could never be a nurse. I get grossed out waaaaay to easily!

I have a ton of burlap left over from E's party and can't wait to come up with something to use it for!

I have worked in a hospital setting for years and also seen much. You can bring it home with you and be sad for a few days, but I've had to learn for my own sake and the sake of my children to be strong and not let it get to me.
As far as the burlap...i've had the same obsession for quite a few years now...it started when I found over 30 sack races made out of burlap. Little by little I'be been turning them into table runners, love sacks, wreaths, mason jar holders, etc.
Have a great weekend!!

So I'm picturing your hospital description and its safe to say, it would make me gag as well.

You should totally pin your wreathe and be all, 'look at me! I made this all by myself!' so then people can repin it and be all, 'oh, I wish I were crafty and could be as awesome as she.'...or something like that.

What is it about coffee that gives you superpowers? I sure don't know but I'll keep happily drinking it! I think my quiet times reading the Bible each day are 100% better when accompanied with a cup of coffee!

You constantly remind me why I could NEVER be in the medical profession.

LOVE the wreath! So simple yet so cute and classy! Yay fall!

condom catheter? I don't even know what that means! It does not sound like a good time though! oh the human body...thank you nurses everywhere for putting up with it! xoxo

Sharstin said...

suck on his catheter? oh yipes!!
Um--your wreath is fab! i am a huge burlap fan too~
happy weekend chick!

I got a bit "lost" trying to follow the condom catheter... and I'm okay with that...
I'm much brighter with a cuppa joe too!

Megan said...

Oh my gosh, he sucked his condom catheter?! That is freaking hilarious and totally disgusting! Hahahahaha. The only thing that has ever made me really gag was a woman, covered in days of old poop, licking her fingers and then trying to swipe at us. Puke city.

so sorry about your patient. maybe he'll find the fight in him again!

your daughter is so cute!!!

and i desperately want to get on board with real coffee - i only like fru fru coffee from the store :)

I know what you mean about coffee. I recently started drinking it and it's like I get twice as much done!

Your little touches of fall and that wreath look so cute!
