These are a few of my favorite things!

One of the things that I really love is food and decor, so for Christmas, my awesome sister in law, Sharla, got me two subscriptions on some amazing magazines: Elle Decore, and Every Day Rachel Ray. As I was looking through all the issues once again this afternoon, I though to myself "Why not post a blog about my favorite things from those issues from January to now." I really had a lot of fun drooling once again over the things I don't need, wish I had, and know way too well I could never afford (mostly the ones from ELLE which are way, and I mean WAY over my budget). Rachel Ray's magazine is really cool, because beside a lot of amazing fast recipes, she has a section called "faves" in which one can find really cute, and for the most part, affordable things. She (or the editor) also has some really neat creative ideas which I enjoy reading about. Elle decor needs almost no introduction. It has the most amazing rooms and home decor and I can only dream of being able to one day, decorate my house using a combination of their mine and their ideas.

I think those two "flower" ideas are just so clever and cute! For the first image you just cover the flowers completely in water and change it every other day, and they will stay fresh up to a week. Look how gorgeous they look! In the second image they used "toe socks" to dress those pots. How crazy cute! There is a different twist on being creative! (Rachel Ray Magazine)

How cute are those flower cupcakes; and the idea of making a desert tower out of ribbon rolls: Genius!

I loved the prints on those fabrics as well as the really neat striped materials, even though I would probably have to sell my kidneys on the black market to afford making any drapes out of them (ELLE). I have to admit though that I find them borderline irresistible.

Those metallic branch looking brushes may become part of my collection soon. They are $20 at Target. The cute pink sandals which would go so well with a nice flowy skirt, are $20 at Pay Less. And that comfy green chair, which one day hope to belong in my craft/reading/"and other stuff" room, is from Pier one for $120.

I told Brandon a few months ago when I first saw this picture that we need to buy a house that has a gigantic old tree like this one, so I could entertain under it's old lit up branches. I absolutely loved this picture, but it is hard to see it here!

Those two living rooms are so classy and elegant. I love the big chandeliers as well as the amount of texture the decorator added on that first living room with the chair and pictures as well as the colorful pillows. I have an enormous amount of admiration for people who are not afraid of color ( because I get a bit intimidated by it at times.) In the second picture I love that big mirror as well as the fireplace. And I think that it's interesting that they have tiles on the floor. I would never have thought of that for a living room.

Interestingly enough, the kitchen is one of the things that I look at first when I go to see a new house. It really is one of my favorite places in the house, and I enjoy spending time in it. I always dreamed about having a huge kitchen with an island in the middle where I can have enough room to cook my heart out... and I am really liking the island in that picture, as well as all the white cabinets (I give a lot of credit to people that are brave enough to have any type of white furniture...I don't think I'll ever be that brave, even though I would love to.) And look at this table in the dining room!!! I don't know how well you can tell, but the legs are made out of wood, and it is just so crazy and fascinatingly amazing! It has to be one of my top five favorite tables ever!

I really liked both of these bedrooms, each for their own attributes. I would love to have a fireplace in the bedroom in our next "real home" whenever that will be. I also really like the big mirror as well as the way the entire room feels. This second room doesn't look like anything that I would pick for my own bedroom, however, I have this feeling that I would be very comfortable in it regardless.

This froggy rain coat for children is so adorable. I might try to find it for my nieces. I think Jubilee would loove it! The flower coffee mugs are from Target for only $6, but I have an unhealthy obsession to buy bugs after every holiday, so I have plenty of them for now...even though it's tempting.

I though this bag was really fun and cute especially for the summer/fall season, and this instant coffee mix it is sooo delicious as well as very inexpensive. Give it a try... you'll be glad you did.

These were a very few of my favorite foods listed in RR's magazine. I actually made a few of them. I though that the "egg muffins" was a really cool idea. I had lots of fun making and eating them as well.

This is our cat Knight who was with me through this entire process: where ever I was cutting anything he had to be right on top of my magazines and papers.
This next picture has nothing to do with anything I've talked about so far, but since it was on my camera, I though I should post it. This is how different Brandon and I are: We ordered this pizza, and can you tell which side is his? I got tons of veggies, and than added some of my own. It was yamolicious!

Well, I hope you guys had fun and enjoyed those favorites of mine. Feel free to let me know what you think and if you liked any of them. I also want to thank Sharla for the subscription, since she made it possible for me to share any of these with you.

One more reason to miss this place....

I don’t care what anyone else says, Michigan can be absolutely stunning, especially during summer time. Those small towns around here have made me fall deeply in love with them by captivating me with their beautiful beaches, small restaurants with such delicious food, green vineyards, and numerous orchards where you can go and just pick as many fruits as your heart desires. Sometimes, while the sun sets, those towns look as picturesque as a beautiful photograph taken in the Tuscany landscape of the magnificent Italy. Breathtaking.

But enough with all this romanticism; what I was really getting at, was a really enjoyable day that I had with Ashley picking raspberries, blackberries, sour cherries, and peaches. I always prefer picking my own fruit to buying them, but I don’t always have that option. However, now, during summer time, I finally have the chance to do that again.

I was just about to call Ash and ask her if she wanted to come with me, when my phone rang and she asked me the same thing!!! Crazy, right? Even though we didn’t have the chance to pick too many blackberries because they were still very sour and not ripe enough, we picked as many peaches as we wanted, as well as enough raspberries to snack on. We both really enjoyed the weather, the fruit, as well as the experience.

Once we were done picking our fruit, we stopped by Carisa’s house to hug Genna for a few minutes, and share some of our peaches with them.

It is hard to believe that in a few weeks I won’t be able to just stop by to see those girls, and they won’t be just a simple phone call away. This is why, I am going to take as many pictures as I can, and make as many memories as my mind can hold, so I can close my eyes and replay them all in my head… or just open my iPhoto.

One Sweeeeeeet Date

This Wednesday we had one sweeeeeet date… literarily. We decided to just simply go out and get some of our favorite deserts. I got some really delightful, mouth-watering tiramisu from Papa Vinos, and Brandon got a really good Reece’s Blizzard from DQ. I loooooveeeeeee tiramisu. The best tiramisu I’ve ever had was in this small, romantic restaurant in Italy. However, since we’re a “few” miles away from Italy, I’ll have to settle for the Papa Vino’s, which is really, really delicious as well. Brandon is a huge Reece’s fan, and he loved his desert. It’s funny, because I really don’t like peanut butter, and Brandon is not too interested in my “to die for” coffee and mascarpone, melt in your mouth, tiramisu, so neither one of us tried the other one’s desert. He is really missing out… well, we might both be missing out on something.

After we got our very delightful deserts, we went back home and cuddled on the couch while watching Leverage, as we added hundreds of calories on our thighs and I am sure, other parts of our bodies that I should not even think about; once in a while however, it is ALL worth it.

Rediscovering Chicago with Family

Being only about 1 ½ hours away from the magnificent city of Chicago, one would think that I would have already discovered every big thing there was to discover about it. Well, surprisingly enough I haven’t. Yes, I have been there multiple times, and I have seen a few astonishing museums, inspiring Shakespearean plays, the amazing botanical garden, as well as enjoyed some mind-blowing meals. However, I never really got the chance to simply walk around this grandiose city, find out about the history behind the multiple architectural buildings, or just simply enjoy the beautiful sites and streets of the windy city…until this week.

I love my mommy /On our way to the windy city

My mom’s cousin Elena, and her daughter Stephani came from Italy for a two week vacation, and after seeing Detroit, NYC, and Niagara Falls, it was time for them to discover Chicago. So together with my parents and I, the five of us left for Chicago around 10am on Wednesday morning. Needless to say, finding a reasonable parking price in downtown Chicago took some time. After we parked the car, we started walking around the city, and took about two hundred pictures of everyone and everything. Elena, Stephani and I even took the tourist boat ride. We all really enjoyed finding out about pretty much why and who built every building in the city. The thing I loved the most was the view we got of the entire city from Lake Michigan. Everything was just breathtaking, and we had an amazing time.

Of course we had to do a bit of shopping also. We bought some really cute purses and jeans from Levi, and enjoyed a good meal at a small “hole in the wall” restaurant. After about 7 hours of walking, plenty of blisters on my feet, and a really good time with family, we headed back home. I treasure those memories that I am making with my family so much. Once I move away, I am really going to miss the simple thing I did with my family, like joking with them, laughing with (or mostly at) my brother, and shopping with my mommy.

This day was so amazing; I really could not have asked for anything more.
